    This blog ran from 2006 to 2016 and was intended as an objective and dispassionate source of information on the latest CAM research. Since my background is in pharmacy and allopathic medicine, I view all CAM as advancing through the development pipeline to eventually become integrated into mainstream medical practice. Some will succeed while others fail. But all are treated fairly here.

    Recommended doses of vitamin D

    Highlights

    • Older adults
      • To lower risk for falls and fractures: Vitamin D 700 to 800 IU per day
    • To prevent vitamin D deficiency
      • Infants and children with inadequate sun exposure: Vitamin D 400 IU/day
      • Adults with inadequate sun exposure: Vitamin D intake of 400 to 600 IU per day
    • Adults with vitamin D deficiency, except for those with malabsorption syndromes,
      • Maintenance dosages of 800 to 1000 IU of vitamin D per day

    The bottom line?
    The authors cover important information on follow-up after a course of treatment.
