The C.A.M. Report
Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Fair, Balanced, and to the Point
  • About this web log

This blog ran from 2006 to 2016 and was intended as an objective and dispassionate source of information on the latest CAM research. Since my background is in pharmacy and allopathic medicine, I view all CAM as advancing through the development pipeline to eventually become integrated into mainstream medical practice. Some will succeed while others fail. But all are treated fairly here.

More support for acupuncture treatment of neck pain

Another group has reviewed the literature and concluded there is moderate evidence for its use to treat neck pain.

    “Moderate” evidence that acupuncture?

    • Relieves pain better than some sham treatments when measured at the end of the treatment
    • Is associated with less pain — short-term follow-up — than those on a waiting list
    • Is more effective than inactive treatments for relieving pain as measured immediately post treatment and during short-term follow-up.

These conclusions are based on the results of 10 clinical studies. It agrees with an earlier Cochrane review.
