The C.A.M. Report
Complementary and Alternative Medicine: Fair, Balanced, and to the Point
  • About this web log

This blog ran from 2006 to 2016 and was intended as an objective and dispassionate source of information on the latest CAM research. Since my background is in pharmacy and allopathic medicine, I view all CAM as advancing through the development pipeline to eventually become integrated into mainstream medical practice. Some will succeed while others fail. But all are treated fairly here.

The future of traditional Chinese medicine

Drs. Wei-Feng Li, Jian-Guo Jiang, and Jian Chena from the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou say, “TCM modernization has become necessary and urgent.”

They outline the path to integrate traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) into the mainstream.

    • Modernization of TCM requires combining with modern technology, academic thought, and scientific culture.
    • Most important is to elucidate the active components of TCM — especially the pharmacodynamic mechanisms.
    • Modern tools of analytical chemistry and molecular biology can be used to realize the modernization of TCM.

    The bottom line?
They believe, “TCM modernization will provide the world with useful reference information on traditional medicines.”

I hope their recommendations carry weight.
