More positive results for hypnotherapy for IBS

An earlier post summarized the positive results from a study conducted in the UK on this topic. Now a review of the literature adds further support for hypnotherapy in patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Here are the details.

  • Over half of the trials (10 of 18) indicated a significant benefit
  • However, there is a need for a high-quality randomized placebo-controlled trial to establish the effectiveness of hypnotherapy in the management of IBS

The researchers concluded, “This form of treatment should be restricted to specialist centers caring for the more severe forms of IBS.”
