Marijuana (Cannabinoids)Mindfulness

Reducing marijuana use among young women

Researchers in Rhode Island studied the value of motivational interviewing + mindfulness meditation.

First, the details.

  • 34 female marijuana users between 18 and 29 years old were randomly assigned to a treatment group.
    • 2 sessions of motivational interviewing + mindfulness meditation
    • Control group
  • Participants’ marijuana use was reassessed at 1, 2, and 3 months after treatment.

And, the results.

  • The motivational interviewing + mindfulness meditation group used marijuana 6, 8, and 7 fewer days at months 1, 2, and 3, respectively, than controls — significant differences.

The bottom line?

The authors concluded, “Findings from this pilot study provide preliminary evidence for the feasibility and effectiveness of a brief motivational interviewing + mindfulness meditation for young adult female marijuana users.

And it only took 2 sessions.

A Google search revealed that most pot smokers view mindfulness as a potential way to “enhance” their high.
