Policosanol: Another negative study result

Healthcare is expensive, but there is nothing more expensive than paying for drugs that just don’t work.

That appears to be the case with policosanol — at least for anyone living outside Cuba.

Forty healthy adults with mildly high cholesterol blood levels were assigned to receive policosanol 20 mg or placebo once daily for 8 weeks.

There were no changes in any of the laboratory values studied including LDL (bad) cholesterol, total cholesterol, HDL (good) cholesterol, triglycerides, or C-reactive protein.

The history of policosanol can be traced by clicking the “policosanol” link to the right.
