Consumer Alert: Hardcore Energize Bullet and New Whey

The US Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers not to buy or use Hardcore Energize Bullet (photo) or New Whey liquid products  due to suspected product tampering.

The products are sold in small test tube-like vials.

The suspected tampering involved a utility knife blade found in one vial of Hardcore Energize Bullet drink, manufactured in the US and sold in Canada, and another blade in one vial of New Whey liquid products, manufactured and sold in the US.  No one is known to have been hurt.

The risk of injury is greater than you might think because the contents are meant to be “slammed.” In other words, swallowed rapidly without thinking much about it, except that you look cool to 5th graders.

Hardcore Energize Bullet contains 300 mg of caffeine plus amino acids, B-vitamins, theobromine, ginseng, rhodiola rosea, and more, and is sweetened with ace-K and sucralose. It also contains policosanol, which purportedly reduces LDL (bad) cholesterol levels — although most studies report no effect.

New Whey liquid is a high protein drink.

The affected lots are listed here.
